Installing SQL Server 2008 on the secondary system
The SQL Server Installation Wizard enables you to install an SQL Server failover cluster on a
single node. Setup operations for SQL Server failover clustering have changed for SQL
Server 2008. To install or upgrade an SQL Server failover cluster, you must run the setup
program on each node of the failover cluster. To add a node to an existing SQL Server
failover cluster, you must run SQL Server Setup on the node that is to be added to the SQL
Server failover cluster instance. Do not run setup on the active node.
After completing the installation of a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Enterprise edition instance
or verification of the availability of an existing Microsoft SQL Server 2008 instance on the
primary node, you must install SQL Server 2008 on the secondary node.
Download and install the latest patch available for SQL Server 2008 from
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957459.
1. Install any prerequisite components for SQL Server 2008 if they are not already
installed. Microsoft Windows Installer 4.5 must be installed and HP recommends
that you install the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 to avoid installing
the .NET Framework twice and to avoid multiple restarts.
