HP Matrix Operating Environment 7.3 and 7.3 Update 1 Infrastructure Orchestration User Guide

HP-UX vPars support
Matrix infrastructure orchestration now supports HP-UX Virtual Partitions (vPars) as a dedicated
guest for virtual logical servers of Integrity VM virtualization.
HP-UX vPars is a soft partitioning technology within HP-UX that adds finer core granularity to
nPartitions, as well as the flexibility of dynamic resource migration. Each virtual partition is assigned
a subset of hardware, runs a separate instance of HP-UX, and hosts its own set of applications.
Each virtual partition requires a minimum of one dedicated CPU, one network port, one root disk,
and memory sufficient for HP-UX and the hosted applications.
NOTE: HP-UX vPars requires at least one server with an Itanium 2 CPU or above.
Creating vPar guests
With vPars support, Matrix infrastructure orchestration adds the availability of a new guest type
to virtual logical servers of Integrity VM virtualization. When designing a template, the user can
select SHARED (for VM) or DEDICATED (for vPar) as the guest type for each logical server group.
Automatic provisioning is supported for both vPar and VM guest types.
When designing a template in infrastructure orchestration designer, perform the following steps
to create a vPar guest.
1. Double-click the virtual logical server icon to open the Edit Server Configuration dialog.
