HP Virtualization Manager with Logical Server Manager 6.2 User Guide

Unable to import an Integrity VM logical server
You may see the following error on the Import Logical Server screen when attempting to import
an Integrity VM guest as a logical server:
Error: Import failed for system-name. Invalid storage.
Suggested action Ensure that the Integrity VM storage is properly configured with a whole
LUN, ejectable DVD, or virtual disk created using a Shared Logical Volume Manager (SLVM)
Logical Volume (LV). The Volume Group that contains the SLVM LV must have a container type
of CONTAINER_VOLUME_SLVM.
See HP Integrity Virtual Machines 4.2: Installation, Configuration, and Administration at www.hp.com/
go/hpux-hpvm-docs for more information.
Failure during virtual machine deletion leaves active but unpowered logical
server
The deletion of a virtual machine requires that it be registered; therefore, part of the delete
operation is to register the virtual machine.
The ReportLogical Server Job Status... screen shows the progression of job detail messages
for the delete operation. If a virtual machine failure occurs for any reason during the interval
between registration and actual deletion, when the virtual machine is restarted, logical server
management sees a registered virtual machine and marks the associated logical server as active.
After the failure, the delete job appears to be incomplete, and the logical server is active, but not
powered on.
Suggested action
1. Refresh Insight Control virtual machine management (VMM) server resources using the
ToolsLogical ServersRefresh... menu selection.
2. Deactivate the logical server using the ToolsLogical ServersDeactivate... menu
selection.
3. Repeat the delete operation using the DeleteDelete Logical Server... menu selection.
VM Hosts must be in same vCenter for ESX virtual machine logical server
moves
To move logical servers from one VM Host to another, the VM Hosts must be members of the
same VMware vCenter. Additionally, you can move ESX virtual machine logical servers among
multiple clusters, as long as the clusters are contained in one vCenter.
Performing operations on a logical server running as a VM Host
HP Insight Dynamics supports a logical server that is a physical server blade running a VM Host.
Insight Dynamics also supports logical servers that are guest VMs on that physical server. In
order to protect the VM guests from inadvertent operations, a logical server that is a physical
server running as a VM Host has the following restrictions:
Deactivate, move, power off, and delete operations on the VM Host logical server are not
supported while there are guest VM logical servers residing on the VM Host logical server.
You must move the guest VM logical servers off of the VM Host logical server before
performing any of these operations on the VM Host logical server.
Deactivate, move, power off, and delete operations on the VM Host logical server are not
supported while there are running jobs on a VM guest logical server or on the VM Host
logical server that could result in creating or leaving a VM guest logical server on the VM
Host logical server. If this occurs, re-identify the source and target server blades and VM
Host. If the orphan VM guest logical server remains after re-identification, unmanage the
logical server and, if necessary, remove its underlying resources.
