• Specifies the type of client certificate authentication
desired
• none: no client certificate is required
• optional: the client may present a valid certificate
• require: the client must present a valid certificate
• optional_no_ca: the client may present a certificate,
but it doesn’t have to be valid
• “optional” doesn’t work with all browsers, and
“optional_no_ca” is really for testing
