DD-2 Utilities Manual Pages
6.1 Introduction
This section contains the manual pages for the DD-2 utilities. All information in the section
was accurate at the time of publication, but is subject to change without notice. For the latest
information, see the Release Notes for your version of the tape drive software.
6.2 DD-2 Utilities Overview
The DST/DIS Tape Management (dd2) Utilities provide command-line access to Ampex DST
and DIS Tape Drives running on UNIX host systems. The utilities support a large set of
input/output (I/O), control, and status operations.
The dd2 utilities map closely to DST tape device driver functions and are compatible with the
DST/DIS Automated Cartridge Library (ACL) Management Utilities. The utilities are
designed to be used together in scripts that perform higher-level operations, so they provide a
consistent set of input and output conventions that make them easy to integrate.
6.2.1 Utilities
The Tape Management utilities have descriptive names that indicate both the type of operation
performed and the type of object upon which the operation is performed:
dd2_clrlog_drive Clear tape drive error and operational statistics.
dd2_format_tape Format a DD-2 tape.
dd2_getlog_drive Get tape drive operational, service, and diagnostic statistics.
dd2_getparam_drive Get tape drive data block size, tape device driver debug level, and
device special file interface parameter settings.
dd2_getpos_tape Get current position and estimated remaining capacity of partition.
dd2_gettrace_drive Get a firmware trace log from the tape drive.
dd2_query_drive Get tape drive product information, configuration and capabilities,
and tape device driver version.
dd2_query_tape Get tape format attributes.
