Asynchronous Terminals and Printer Processes Programming Manual

PRINTER PROGRAMMING CONSIDERATIONS
Resetting the 5573 Printers
| Resetting the 5573 Printers
|
|
| Resetting the printer ensures that the I/O process and the
| printer are at a known default state. The I/O process performs
| a RESET only once for a device, when the device is first
| opened. The I/O process does not perform another RESET even if
| multiple opens exist on the device. In addition, the I/O process
| can perform a RESET only for operations not controlled by the
| spooler. For operations controlled by the spooler, the spooler
| issues a SETMODE 28 at the beginning of each job.
|
| The RESET or SETMODE 28 sets all the SETMODE parameters to their
| SYSGEN values and causes the driver to issue
ESC
E to the printer.
| The
ESC
E resets the printer to the front panel defaults, the VFC
| table to its default, and causes a conditional physical top of
| form.
|
| SETMODE 29 is the only SETMODE parameter not affected by a
| SETMODE 28 operation or by the RESET command when the device is
| first opened. SETMODE 29 sets auto answer or control answer.
|
| Do not press the RESET button on the printer during printing.
| Doing so can cause data to be lost. Pressing the RESET button
| does not reset programmable parameters or top of form, nor does
| pressing the RESTORE button on the printer.
|
|
| NOTE
|
| You must use the spooler when printing on a 5573 printer.
| The spooler flushes the buffer when the device is closed
| ensuring that all data in the buffer is printed. If the
| spooler is not used, you may lose the last line of data.

|
| The 5573 printers do not support DAVFU or VFU downloading.
|
|
|
| Printing Restrictions for 5573
|
|
| The 5573 printer may be unavailable for up to 30 seconds between
| the closing of one job and the start of another. To ensure the
| printer has completed a job and has reset its internal parameters
| properly, you should allow more than 30 seconds between jobs.
