Finally, keep in mind that making changes to any one of the factors discussed in this
section may have only a minor impact on total system performance. However, making
changes to a number of these factors together can result in improved levels of
performance.
Using EMS as a Troubleshooting Tool
EMS collects and distributes all errors reported by all subsystems running in your
Compaq system, including errors reported by the following:
SCF
OSI/TS-specific SCF
SPI
OSI/TS-specific SPI

Underlying subsystems
Individual messages, or groups of messages, can provide important clues and specific
information for diagnosing problems.
EMS filters are a useful mechanism for selecting messages of special interest, or groups
of messages. Because EMS filters are easy to write, they can easily be written, or
tailored, to select messages pertaining to a particular problem. For more information,
see the Event Management Service (EMS) Manual.
Using the CHECK SU Command
You can use the SCF command, CHECK SU, to display information about all the
subdevices (controlled by OSI/TS, X25AM, and TLAM/PAM) that match the selection
criteria in the command. CHECK SU displays active subdevices, all subdevices waiting
for a connection to be established, and all inactive static subdevices.
