What Related Publications Are Available?
The related publications fall into three categories: documents prepared by standards 
groups, Compaq programming manuals, and other Compaq OSI/MHS manuals. The 
following subsections list and describe these publications.
Documents Prepared by Standards Groups
To obtain the most current and definitive information about message handling systems 
and Abstract Syntax Notation One (ASN.1), refer to the International Telegraph and 
Telephone Consultative Committee (CCITT) recommendations listed below:

CCITT Blue Book (Volume VIII - Fascicle VIII.7, Data Communications Networks, 
Message Handling Systems), Recommendations X.400-X.420, provides the most 
detailed descriptions of elements of the MHS service, message transfer protocol, and 
interpersonal messaging protocol for the X.400 1988 standard.  In this manual, the 
title of this document is referred to as Recommendations X.400-X.420 (1988). 
Recommendations contained in this volume that are referred to in this manual are:

X.413 MHS:  Message store:  abstract service definition
•
X.419 MHS:  Protocol Specifications

CCITT Blue Book (Volume VIII - Fascicle VIII.4, Data Communications Networks, 
Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) Model and Notation, Service Definition), 
Recommendations X.200-X.219, provides descriptions of ASN.1 syntax, extensions, 
and Basic Encoding Rules (BER) in Recommendations X.208 and X.209. In this 
manual, the title of this document is referred to as Recommendations X.200-X.219 
(1988).

OpenþSystems Interconnection (OSI) Protocol Specifications, Conformance 
Testing), Recommendations X.220-X.290, provides the most detailed descriptions of 
protocol definitions, in particular Remote Operations Service Element (ROSE) and 
Association Control Service Element (ACSE). In this manual, the title of this 
document is referred to as Recommendations X.220-X.290 (1988).
