Overview of SQL/MX Migration

Migrating From NonStop SQL/MP to NonStop
SQL/MX
Phased migration involves careful and gradual movement of your SQL/MP applications
and database to NonStop SQL/MX. While the SQL/MP production database continues
to operate as the primary database, preselected applications and portions of the
database are migrated in phases to NonStop SQL/MX. After the SQL/MP applications
and databases are successfully migrated to NonStop SQL/MX and thoroughly tested
and validated, they become part of the primary, production database management
system.
Rapid migration involves relatively fast and difficult-to-reverse migration of SQL/MP
applications and databases to NonStop SQL/MX. For example, you might be required
to convert the entire database and all applications to NonStop SQL/MX over a short
period of time.
Table 1-1 describes the criteria you might use to choose between phased migration
and rapid migration of NonStop SQL/MP to NonStop SQL/MX.
If you have a large, complex database, for which uninterrupted business continuity and
risk avoidance are very important, and for which a longer migration time frame is
acceptable, you would probably choose phased migration.
If you have a smaller, simpler database, for which quick migration is important, and for
which some short-term downtime is acceptable, you would probably choose rapid
migration.
Migrating to a New Hardware Platform
When migrating to a new NonStop hardware platform, such as from a NonStop
S-series system to an Integrity NonStop NS-series system, move existing SQL/MP
applications and databases to the new platform before migrating to NonStop SQL/MX.
For information about migrating to an Integrity NonStop NS-series system, see the
NonStop NS-Series Database Migration Guide.
