HP P9000 Command View Advanced Edition Suite Software 7.3.1-00 CLI Reference Guide

If you use the poolid parameter to specify the pool ID of a THP/Smart pool, the THP/Smart volumes
that are created are assigned to that THP/Smart pool.
For P9500 and XP24000/XP20000, AddVirtualVolume can be used to create a virtual parity
group and populate it with THP/Smart volumes. For XP24000/XP20000, AddVirtualVolume can
be used to create THP volumes in an existing virtual parity group.
For P9500 and XP24000/XP20000, if no SSID is assigned to devNum of the created THP/Smart
volumes, one is assigned automatically. For details about the SSID, see the storage system
documentation.
The following conditions must be satisfied if you use this command with P9500:
When a THP/Smart pool is specified, its status must not be Blocked.
When a THP/Smart pool is specified, the over-provisioning percent must be less than the over
provisioning limit threshold.
NOTE:
If you use this command with P9500, you cannot create more than one THP/Smart volume in a virtual
parity group.
The following conditions must be satisfied if you use this command with XP24000/XP20000:
They must have an emulation type of OPEN-V.
The unused capacity on the virtual volume must be larger than the capacity of the THP volumes.
If you are creating THP volumes in an existing virtual group, the CLPR number of any THP pool
that you specify must be the same as the CLPR number of the virtual parity group.
When a THP pool is specified, its status must not be Blocked.
When a THP pool is specified, the over-provisioning percent must be less than the over provisioning
limit threshold.
NOTE:
Note the following when using this command with XP24000/XP20000:
HP recommends that you do not create more than one THP volume in a virtual parity group. Also,
if the microcode version is 60-04-XX-XX/XX or later and the system option 726 is set to ON,
you cannot create more than one THP volume in a virtual parity group.
Because a THP volume management area is created, you cannot create THP volumes that have a
total capacity equal to the unused capacity in the virtual parity group.
To create THP volume within an existing virtual parity group, you must have Open Volume Man-
agement installed in the storage system.
If you execute this command when the threshold values related to the over-provisioning percent
(the over provisioning warning threshold and over provisioning limit threshold) are set, make sure
that the Device Manager server database is consistent. These threshold values are specific thresholds
managed by the Device Manager server. If the over-provisioning percent information that has
been obtained by Device Manager does not match the actual over-provisioning percent, the system's
determination of whether the over provisioning warning threshold and over provisioning limit
threshold values have been exceeded might be incorrect.
For details about the following conditions, see the Thin Provisioning documentation:
The minimum and maximum capacities of THP/Smart volumes
