The Python™ 3-IN-1 FlexFit™ Ridge
Vent Installation Instructions
U.S. Pat. No. 7,662,037; U.S. Pat. No. 9,175,480; U.S. Pat. No. D694,394; Canadian Pat. No.
2,776,653 and other foreign patents pending. Tools required; hammer, utility knife, chalk line,
tape measure and circular saw. Applicable to non-woven filtered and non-filtered vents.
Quick Pre-Install Checklist
Contact your local code official before installing Python™ 3-IN-1 FlexFit™ Ridge Vent for
compliance with local requirements.
Please see online Python Vent Calculator App at ___________, to determine how much
ventilation is required.
Install only one type of exhaust vent and remove and plug existing vents including
turbines, gable vents, roof louvers and static vents
The NFVA (Net Free Venting Area) of the eave/intake vents should never be less
than the NFVA of the Python™ 3-IN-1 FlexFit™ Ridge Vent. Improper balancing of the
system could result in weather infiltration and inadequate attic ventilation.
The Python FlexFit Shingle Over Ridge Vent is engineered for use on roof pitches from
2/12 to 12/12.
Installation Tips
1. When installing Python 3-IN-1 FlexFit Ridge Vent with architectural shingles, caulk
between low areas of shingle and external baffle, don’t plug the weep holes.
2. Cut away any excess shingles and underlayment overlapping the weep holes and properly
seal the edge of the weep hole with sealant (such as roofing cement) ensuring that water
is unable to penetrate the hole under the shingles or roofing underlayment.
3. Run the Python™ 3-IN-1 FlexFit Ridge Vent from end to end to give the roof an attractive
appearance.
4. For truss construction, cut a 1″ slot on each side of the ridge starting a minimum of 12″
from the rake edge of the roof. For roofs with a ridge pole cut a 1″ slot on each side of the
ridge pole starting a minimum of 12″ from the rake edge of the roof or chimney. Cut slot
within 6” of end of wall or hip intersection.
5. Over nailing can distort vent shape and under nailing can cause nails to back out of roof
deck.
12″ Cap Shingle Installations
1. For existing roofs remove cap shingles. Using a chalk line, mark 1″ on both sides of the
ridge (1″ beyond ridge pole) as a guide for cutting a slot in the decking.
2. Cut a plumb slot in roof ridge using a circular saw with the blade set at a depth to cut
through the roof decking only, avoiding cutting trusses and rafters. Remove debris. Seal
the edge of the hole with a sealant (roofing cement).
3. Center the Python™ 3-IN-1 FlexFit™ Ridge Vent over the slot that has been cut in the
ridge, ensuring that the RIDGE VENT support pegs sit flat on the roof. To ensure proper
alignment along the ridge, run a chalk line down both sides of the ridge.
