Installing the 86100C
To use the removable hard disk option
To use the removable hard disk option
The removable hard disk option, 86100C-090, is designed for 86100C instru-
ments that are used in a secure environment. Because the hard disk is easily
removed from the instrument, you can protect any sensitive data. The follow-
ing two procedures are provided in this section:
To declassify instrument memory 1-30
To exchange the removable hard disks 1-32
The removable hard disk option comes with two hard disks. One is installed in
the instrument, and one is provided separately. When shipped from the fac-
tory, both hard disks include identical operating system, applications, factory
calibration, and licensing files. You simply exchange the hard disks, and the
instrument is ready to use.
Both drive C (INFINIIUM) and drive D (USER) are located on the hard disk.
Drive C contains the operating system, the 86100C application, and any fac-
tory installed or user installed applications. Drive C also contains factory cali-
bration data and application licenses, which are automatically backed up to
drive D. Drive D contains backup files and user files including data files.
CAUTION Use standard anti-static precautions when handling removable hard disks to
avoid damaging the disks.
To declassify instrument memory
Perform this procedure before removing the 86100C from a secure area.
1 Turn the 86100C on.
2 Press the Default Setup key two consecutive times. (Press Default Setup, then
immediately press Default Setup again.)
The instrument always maintains its current and prior settings in non-volatile
RAM, so that when you power up the instrument, the settings will be the same
as when it was last powered off. This step resets the current and prior instru-
ment state settings to their default settings by erasing the states that are
stored in non-volatile RAM.
3 Clear channel memory (overwrite with noise) using the following steps:
a Install two measurement modules, and press all four front-panel Channel
keys to enable all four channels. The Channel keys are located above the
modules. Do not connect any signals.
