Event Monitoring Service Version A.04.20.11.04, A.04.20.23.04, and A.04.20.31.04 Release Notes

While installing EMS, the installation process may modify /etc/services, /etc/inittab
or /etc/inetd.conffiles. If the files are modified, a copy of the unmodified version is available
in the /etc directory. For example,
/etc/inittab will be copied to /etc/ems_inittab.old
/etc/services will be copied to /etc/services.old
/etc/inetd.conf will be copied to /etc/inetd.conf.old
Removing EMS
You have to use the swremove utility or the Software Management tools in SAM to remove
EMS. Note that the monitors are persistent; that is, they are always automatically started if they
are stopped. Therefore, the following warning message may be created in your log file:
Could not shut down process.
The following error message is displayed:
File /etc/opt/resmon/lbin/p_client could not be removed.
Even if you see these warnings, monitors are removed and any unwanted files are cleaned up
on reboot.
CAUTION: When you remove EMS, all log files are also removed. If you wish to save any of
the EMS log files, rename them or store them before you remove EMS.
EMS and EMS HA Monitors Patch Strategy
EMS Framework (EventMonitoring) and HA Monitors (B5736DA) are in support mode for all
releases of HP-UX 11i. There will be no patches for any release of EMS. There will be no new
enhancements and features. Only defects with severity level above 8 or defects related to security
issues would be fixed.
As and when required EMS will provide defect fixes via AR/OEUR media. In case of critical
defects in the EMS Framework (EventMonitoring bundle only), that impair the system/dependent
product functioning, the fix will be made available via Web Release, which happens once every
month. The fix will be made available as an installable product upgrade and can be downloaded
from the HP Software Depot web site at https://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/
try.do?productNumber=EventMonitoring. Such fixes will be included in the EMS product on
the AR/OEUR media at a minimum of once each year.
In the support mode the following is applicable:
No new EMS Monitors will be developed. Customers are encouraged to develop WBEM
provider based monitors using the SysFaultMgmt framework rather than developing EMS
monitors.
Monitoring for new platforms will be accomplished through WBEM based monitoring only
using the SysFaultMgmt Product.
EMS Developers Kit will no longer be shipped with HP-UX 11i v3.
For HP-UX 11i v3 you can download the latest templates from the HP Software Depot web
site at http://www.hp.com/go/softwaredepot. In the main page of the Software Depot, select
High Availability under Product Category. In the High Availability page that opens, select
Event Monitoring Service (EMS) Developer's Kit. The templates are listed in the
Developers Kit page. Instructions are provided with the templates. To download the
templates, click the Receive for Free button at the top or the bottom of the page. Select
