Image overlay combines two existing NEF (RAW) photographs to create a single picture that is saved separately from the originals; the results, which make use of RAW data from the camera image sensor, are noticeably better than overlays created in an imaging application. The new picture is saved at current image quality and size settings; before creating an overlay, set image quality and size (_ 85, 88; all options are available). To create a NEF (RAW) copy, choose an image quality of NEF (RAW).
4 Adjust gain. Highlight Image 1 or Image 2 and optimize exposure for the overlay by pressing • or • to select gain from values between 0.1 and 2.0. Repeat for the second image. The default value is 1.0; select 0.5 to halve gain or 2.0 to double it. The effects are visible in the Preview column. S Preview the overlay. Press • or I_ to place the cursor in the Preview column and press • or • to highlight Overlay.
Create JPEG copies of NEF (RAW) photographs. Select NEF (RAW) processing. Highlight NEF (RAW) processing in the retouch menu and press I_ to display a picture selection dialog listing only NEF (RAW) images created with this camera. 2 3 Select a photograph. Highlight a photograph (to view the highlighted photograph full frame, press and hold the button; to view images in other locations as described on page 164, hold BKT and press A). Create small copies of selected photographs. Select Resize. To resize selected images, press MENU to display the menus and select Resize in the retouch menu. 2 Choose a destination. If two memory cards are inserted, you can choose a destination for the resized copies by highlighting Choose destination and pressing i_ (if only one card is inserted, proceed to Step 3). Create an outline copy of a photograph to use as a base for painting. The effect can be previewed in the edit display. Press _) to copy the photograph. Recent Settings To display the twenty most recently used settings, select _ Recent settings for _ My Menu > Choose tab. Select Choose tab. TechnicalNotes Read this chapter for information on compatible accessories, cleaning and storing the camera, and what to do if an error message is displayed or you encounter problems using the camera. CPU lenses (particularly types G and D) are recommended, but note that IX-NIKKOR lenses can not be used. CPU lenses can be identified by the presence of CPU contacts, type G and D lenses by a letter on the lens barrel. Type G lenses are not equipped with a lens aperture ring.

[] Calculating Angle of View The size of the area exposed by a 35 mm camera is 36 x 24 mm. The size of the area exposed by the D7000, in contrast, is 23.6 x 15.6 ram, meaning camera is approximately that the angle of view of a 35mm 1.5 times that of the D7000. The camera supports the Nikon Creative Lighting System (CLS) and can be used with CLS-compatible flash units. Optional flash units can be attached directly to the camera accessory shoe as described below. The accessory shoe is equipped with a safety lock for flash units with a locking pin, such as the SB-900, SB-800, SB-700, SB-600, and SB-400. 1 Remove the accessory shoe cover. 2 Mount the flash unit on the accessory shoe. The Nikon Creative Lighting System (CLS) Nikon's advanced Creative Lighting System (CLS) offers improved communication between the camera and compatible flash units for improved flash photography.

The Low-Pass Filter The image sensor that acts as the camera's picture element is fitted with a low-pass filter to prevent moire. If you suspect that dirt or dust on the filter is appearing in photographs, you can clean the filter using the Clean image sensor option in the setup menu. The filter can be cleaned at any time using the Clean now option, or cleaning can be performed automatically when the camera is turned on or off. II "CleanNow" Place the camera base down.

IN "Manual Cleaning" If foreign matter can not be removed from the low-pass filter using the Clean image sensor option in the setup menu (_ 284), the filter can be cleaned manually as described below. Note, however, that the filter is extremely delicate and easily damaged. Nikon recommends that the filter be cleaned only by Nikon-authorized service personnel. Charge the battery or connect an AC adapter. A reliable power source is required when inspecting or cleaning the low-pass filter.
