Migrating vPar Systems to Integrity VM

7. Now you can remove the virtual partition software which will rebuild the kernel and require a
reboot. However with the autoboot set to OFF, the OS will be halted
# swremovex autoreboot=true T1335BC
8. The above steps 1-7 must be done on each vPar and verified that each vPar has been halted. If
you have come in through the MP, then you can use the cntl-a sequence as usual to cycle through the
vPars to accomplish the steps. After this is done on each virtual partition, the console will be taken to
the monitor prompt (MON>). Note just because you can get to the MON> prompt doesn’t mean all of
the vPars are down. Please make sure this is so before rebooting the monitor.
MON> vparinfo
Names of the partitions in the database:
----------------------------------------
vpolyc02 (down)
vpolyc05 (down)
vpolyc06 (down)
Now you must reboot into nPars mode to completely disable virtual partitions.
MON> reboot nPars
Installing and Configuring the Virtual Machines
Now that all the virtual partitions have been uninstalled and shut down, you can begin installing and
configuring Integrity Virtual Machines. Nearly all of this takes place on the Integrity VM Host system.
There are three basic steps involved in creating the new virtual machines for each of the virtual
partitions they are replacing:
Creating and configuring the VM Host
Setting up the virtual network configuration
Defining and starting the virtual machines
Integrity VM Host Configuration
The Integrity server (i.e., the nPar) should first have the HP-UX 11i v2, update 2 Foundation Operating
Environment (Foundation OE) installed on it. The VM Host configuration planning is discussed
previously in the section, ‘Planning the VM Host.’
Subsequently, the Integrity VM software (product number T2767AC) must be installed on the VM
Host. This can be done using the SD-UX software installation utilities. For example, it may be
installed with the SD-UX command-line interface:
# swinstall -x autoreboot=true -s <depot-specification> T2767AC
Note that the installation of Integrity VM does require a reboot of the VM Host so that its kernel can
be rebuilt with the functionality required for virtual machines.
