DESCRIPTION

SANworks Enterprise Volume Manager (EVM) is a web-enabled application program that

allows users to establish an EVM Network of up to ten computers that can participate in

automated storage unit replication jobs on Compaq StorageWorks systems. SANworks

EVM addresses the need for business continuance and data protection by providing the

ability to create, run and manage automated storage replication jobs and to link them with

external jobs to achieve fully parallel processing operations.

Through the SANworks EVM graphical interface, users can perform complex HSG80

controller-based clone or snapshot operations with a single click. The rapid controller-

based clone and snapshot replication methods provide point-in-time copies that can be

used in parallel processes to minimize downtime for backups and data migration.

SANworks EVM also includes a CLI Script Window that provides experienced IT

professionals with a web browser interface for command level control of the

StorageWorks system.

EVM is designed for customers who do not want to or cannot disrupt their computing

operations with management activities such as backup. EVM allows for non-disruptive

backup and recovery operations. Backing up from duplicate storage units allows

production operations to be conducted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. EVM also

provides duplicate storage units for operations such as data mining, warehousing,

testing, and work distribution. EVM improves production performance and enhances the

use of computing and IT resources.

Both the clone and snapshot methods can be used for backup. Snapshot is ideal for nearline backup and recovery. Cloning is well suited for data warehousing, testing and system migration.
