Possible Migration Paths to NonStop SQL/MX
SQL/MX Release 1.8. SQL/MX Release 1.8 and SQL/MX Release 1.8.5, unless otherwise
specified.
SQL/MX Release 2.x. SQL/MX Release 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, and subsequent releases until

Possible Migration Paths to NonStop SQL/MX
There are several paths for migrating to NonStop SQL/MX. Each depends on your
current database product and your business objectives:
Upgrading to a Newer SQL/MX Release on page 1-2
Migrating From SQL/MX Release 1.8 to SQL/MX Release 2.x on page 1-2
Migrating From NonStop SQL/MP to NonStop SQL/MX on page 1-3
Migrating From Enscribe to NonStop SQL/MX on page 1-7
Migrating From Another Database Vendor to NonStop SQL/MX on page 1-7
Risks of Different Migration Paths on page 1-7
Upgrading to a Newer SQL/MX Release
If you are currently using NonStop SQL/MX, you might want to upgrade to a newer
version of NonStop SQL/MX. By upgrading to a newer version of NonStop SQL/MX,
you obtain bug fixes, performance enhancements, and sometimes new functionality.
Upgrading to a newer version of SQL/MX Release 2.x does not significantly disrupt
production applications because the required changes, if any, are usually minimal and
might involve only recompiling modules for better performance. For more information,
see Part I, Upgrading and Maintaining Different Versions of NonStop SQL/MX.
Migrating From SQL/MX Release 1.8 to SQL/MX Release 2.x
If you are still using SQL/MX Release 1.8, consider migrating to SQL/MX Release 2.x.
SQL/MX Release 2.x provides many performance improvements and additional
functionality that is not available in SQL/MX Release 1.8. For example, SQL/MX
Release 2.x has SQL/MX system metadata and enables you to create SQL/MX
database objects that use ANSI standard names.
Integrity NonStop NS-series systems support SQL/MX Release 2.x and do not support
SQL/MX Release 1.8. Before migrating to an Integrity NonStop NS-series system,
migrate from SQL/MX Release 1.8 to SQL/MX Release 2.x on the NonStop S-series
system. For more information, see Part II, Migrating From SQL/MX Release 1.8 to
SQL/MX Release 2.x. To migrate to an Integrity NonStop NS-series system, see the
NonStop NS-Series Database Migration Guide.
Migrating from SQL/MX Release 1.8 to SQL/MX Release 2.x involves mainly migrating
the SQL/MP metadata of SQL/MP aliases, system defaults, ODBC/MX (now MXCS),
and stored procedures in Java (SPJs) to SQL/MX system metadata tables. For more
