Installing Microsoft Sysprep tools
Only install the Microsoft Sysprep tools if you are provisioning Windows Server 2003 or earlier
guests.
NOTE: Provisioning the following does not require installation of Sysprep tools:
• Windows 2008 and higher VM guests
• Linux VM guests

Do the following:To enable customization on:
Install the Microsoft Sysprep tools on the vCenter
management server.
VMware vCenter 4.x
VMware vCenter 5.0
• If vCenter Server is installed on Windows Server 2008
or higher, and you are provisioning a Windows 2003
or earlier guest, install the Sysprep tools in
C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware
VirtualCenter\sysprep\<OS>.
NOTE: C:\ProgramData may be a hidden folder.
• If vCenter Server is installed on an earlier Windows
operating system, install the Sysprep tools in
C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware
VirtualCenter\sysprep\<OS>.
where <OS> is the Windows guest operating system. Valid
values are svr2003 and svr2003–64.
Install the Microsoft Sysprep tools on the CMS in the folder
C:\Program Files\HP\Insight Control virtual
machine management\Sysprep\<OS>
Microsoft Hyper-V (Windows 2003 VM guests)
where <OS> is the Windows guest operating system. Valid
values are 2003 and 2003–64.

must be placed in the directories mentioned previously.
Example: Installing Windows 2003 Sysprep utilities
The following steps show one example that installs the Sysprep utilities to support Windows 2003
x86.
1. Log on to the desktop of your vCenter server.
Navigate to the folder indicated in Table 2 (page 87). For example, locate
C:\ProgramData\VMware\VirtualCenter\sysprep\2003\.
2. Mount the Windows 2003 distribution ISO.
3. Open the \support\tools directory.
