HP Matrix Operating Environment 7.3 Update 1 Installation and Configuration Guide for Provisioning with Virtual Resources

4. Copy the contents of deploy.cab into the installation location as listed in Table 2 (page 87).
Be sure to extract the files from the .cab and do not copy the .cab file. The following screen
shows the resulting directory on the vCenter server to support Windows 2003 x86 guests.
Hyper-V and Windows 2003
For Hyper-V Windows 2003 VM guests, the Sysprep utilities must be installed on the CMS in the
HP folder C:\Program Files\HP\Insight Control virtual machine management\
Sysprep\2003 or 200364.
Excluding hypervisor local storage and system drives from storage provisioning for
VM guests
Create VM guests on shared storage, not storage that is only local to the host. This enables efficient
movement when the VM guest is moved to another VM host. It is also a best practice to isolate the
storage for VMs on a separate drive from any storage containing hypervisor system files. Doing
so results in greater performance and lower risk of starving the hypervisor of required I/O
bandwidth. Specifically, if multiple concurrent VM provisioning requests on the system drive of a
hypervisor host were performed, the disk I/O could become saturated during the virtual hard drive
replication, and cause the host to become unstable or unresponsive.
Matrix infrastructure orchestration services can be configured to use specific datastores for
provisioning VMs. Unless configured, IO considers all volumes on a hypervisor host for provisioning
a VM. In order to prevent creating the VMs on the hypervisor local storage and/or system drives,
you must verify that the local storage is excluded by performing the following steps.
1. Log into the CMS to modify the hpio.properties file.
2. Edit the C:\Program Files\HP\Matrix infrastructure orchestration\conf\
hpio.properties file.
3. In the hpio.properties file, locate the section titled VOLUMES TO EXCLUDE:
4. To exclude storage for a Hyper-V VM host, add the drive letters you want to exclude to the
property volume.exclusion.list, for example:
volume.exclusion.list =C:;Y:;Z:
volume.exclusion.list =C:;Q:;C:\\\\ClusterStorage\\\\Volume1
5. To exclude storage for a VMware VM host, add the data store path that you want to exclude
to the property volume.exclusion.list, for example,
volume.exclusion.list =/vmfs/volumes/Storage*
