HP Matrix Operating Environment 7.3 Update 1 Installation and Configuration Guide for Provisioning with Virtual Resources

Checking virtual machines
To use the VMware vSphere Client tool to connect to VMware vCenter server:
1. Verify that the virtual machine guest which will be used as a source for the service template
is correctly running the VMware Tools. This is shown by selecting the VM name and viewing
the Summary tab. There are three lines corresponding to the output of the VMware Tools
executing inside the guest OS. The status must be OK or Running and the other two lines must
indicate a proper IP address and DNS name. Templates created in a prior version that indicate
Running (Out-of-date) are also supported.
2. Check the guest properties to verify that the General Information has the Guest Operating
System type selected correctly (for example, Microsoft Windows or Linux) including the specific
variation or version (for example, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 32-bit).
3. Review the resource requirements for the VM to make sure they are set appropriately for future
deployments. CPU and memory requirements will be customized by the Matrix OE service
template. However, ensure that any unneeded media (such as a DVD) is unmounted and that
the proper boot and data volumes are defined.
4. Cleanly shut down and power off the VM. Do not suspend it.
5. Clone or convert the VM to a template.
