HP Matrix Operating Environment 7.3 Update 1 Installation and Configuration Guide for Provisioning with Virtual Resources

systems on the target systems to configure or repair the agent settings. You must have root privileges
for HP-UX and Linux systems.
The SSH protocol is required to install the agent software to support the visualization and
configuration features of HP Matrix OE visualization and to collect utilization data for Matrix OE
capacity planning. If your environment precludes installing OpenSSH on the Windows server
blades, see the white paper HP Matrix Operating Environment 7.0 software without OpenSSH on
HP ProLiant and Integrity Servers Running Microsoft® Window at http://

If you select Configure SSH access, you must select one of the following options:
Host based authentication for SSH
For this option to work, the user name and password provided must be an administrative level
account. For Linux or HP-UX targets, it must be the root account and password.
User based authentication on the managed system
If you do not want all users that have login access to HP SIM to run the tool and you would
like to control which users need to have access, this option is more secure.
You can configure SSH only if the OpenSSH service is running on the managed systems. You can
install OpenSSH on Windows operating systems by running Install Open SSH from Configure or
Repair Agents or by selecting DeployDeploy DriversFirmware and AgentsInstall Open SSH.
Using Manage Communications
Sometimes running the Configure or Repair Agents tool is not sufficient. To troubleshoot
communication problems between the CMS and targeted systems, use the Manage Communications
feature of HP SIM at ConfigureManage Communications as shown in Figure 5 (page 133).
Figure 5 Manage Communications
For each failed communication function, troubleshooting information is available. You can
reconfigure certain communication settings, launch agents, and push certificates to target systems.
For each selected target system, Manage Communications displays the following information:
Communication status
Manage Communications table
Identification statusIdentification
Events Ability to receive events
