Configuring SNMP parameters
SNMP is an open-systems standard that allows a DTC to be interrogated by any
authorized SNMP network management workstation, for example a workstation
running HP OpenView Network Node Manager. Security is provided by
authorization filters which list the network management workstations that are
allowed to access the DTC.
The SNMP information about the DTC is stored in a MIB (management information
base). For example, the MIB contains information such as the physical location of
the DTC and whether the DTC should report unauthorized access attempts to the
SNMP manager. Two types of MIB are available: MIB-II allows the SNMP
manager to access the standard MIB objects; DTC MIB allows the SNMP manager
to access the standard MIB objects as well as HP-UX MIB objects.
DTC Managers dtcconfig utility provides two screens for SNMP configuration:
Configure SNMP Authorization Filters—identifies the SNMP managers, the
information that can be requested and whether the managers have write access to
the SNMP MIB data.
Configure SNMP/MIB Data Parameters—defines the SNMP-specific data to
be stored on the DTC.
