HP Matrix Operating Environment 7.3 Update 1 Installation and Configuration Guide for Provisioning with Virtual Resources

Recovery after logical server operation failures
Issue
In the Report Logical Server Job Status screen, an error message similar to one of the following
displays:
Unable to unregister virtual machine from VM Host.{(Virtual Machine
not found), (Host is not connected)}
Operation failed. Cannot open connection.
The resource {.vmx file} required to activate logical server {logical
server name} is not found.
Possible causes
Environment configuration problems.
The resource became unavailable during the runtime of the logical server operation.
The resource has been changed outside of logical server management. For example, the virtual
machine was deleted or the server blade profile was changed or deleted.
Communication between VCEM and VCM is temporarily unavailable.
Suggested actions
1. Ensure that the following configurations are set correctly in your environment. Failure to do
so can cause errors.
DNS is configured for all managed servers.
Time synchronization has been performed among the CMS, managed systems (including
ESX hosts), and VMware vCenter.
VMware vCenter credentials and URL settings in HP SIM are correct.
Onboard Administrator credentials and URL settings in HP SIM are correct.
2. Refresh the server resources to reflect any environment configuration changes in the last 30
minutes (logical server management refreshes automatically every 30 minutes, while the
following steps perform the refresh immediately):
For a VC logical server, access the HP Matrix OE visualization screen, select ToolsLogical
ServersRefresh, then select Virtual Connect Resources.
For a virtual machine logical server, select ToolsLogical ServersRefresh, then select
Virtual Machine Resources.
3. Try the logical server operation again. If it is a temporary resource problem, another try may
succeed.
4. If the above steps do not correct the problem, unmanage the logical server. From the HP Matrix
OE visualization screen, select DeleteUnmanage Logical Server.
5. Import the server with VC or virtual machine as a logical server when the resource is available.
Using a valid host name as logical server name
Issue
Hosts discovered by HP SIM that have the same name as an existing logical server will be shown
by HP SIM using the FQDN only. The FQDN is required in order to fully disambiguate the host
from the logical server in the HP SIM and Matrix OE visualization graphical user interfaces. At the
time a logical server is created or imported, the CMS software will check the given name to ensure
uniqueness among the existing HP SIM hosts. HP recommends creating a name for each logical
server which will always be unique from any managed system name. When a logical server is
created or imported and given a name, the CMS checks the uniqueness of the name and will not
